Nextmune Laboratories UK now offers equine allergy testing using our innovative PAX serum test, representing the latest advancement in equine allergy diagnostics. This next-generation test utilises a state-of-the-art approach, combining allergen extracts and molecular components, making it the first and only serum IgE-specific test of its kind for horses.

PAX Complete Environmental, Insect & Food
The Nextmune PAX Serum Test for horses is a comprehensive diagnostic tool that covers a wide range of allergens, including environmental, insect, and food allergens.
By measuring allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the serum, the PAX test identifies environmental allergens that can aid in allergen avoidance and guide the selection of allergens for allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT). This test includes allergens from the following categories:
The PAX test also helps identify insect allergens specific to horses, facilitating necessary management changes and the selection of allergens for ASIT. Reasons to use serological allergy testing for insect bite hypersensitivity:
Diagnosing food allergies in horses involves conducting a diet trial. The PAX food test assists in identifying suitable foods for an elimination diet trial. How the equine food test helps:

PAX Screens
The Nextmune PAX Serum Test offers allergy screening for both food and environmental panels and provides results as either positive or negative. Upon request, these screens can be expanded for more detailed insights.
The PAX serum test utilises state-of-the-art technology to offer cost-effective allergy screening. Using the same technology the results will indicate a single positive or negative result for each mixed allergen panel. If further investigation is desired, you can expand any allergen panel that shows a positive result to obtain individual allergen-specific outcomes.
This allergy screening is an economical and efficient approach to identify potential allergens in horses. Expanding panels with positive results provides a comprehensive understanding of the horse’s allergies. This expanded insight serves as an excellent precursor to allergen-specific immunotherapy and targeted allergen avoidance strategies.

Nextlab Complete Environmental, Insect & Food
This test includes the equine environmental panel, the insect panel, and the food panel.
By measuring allergen-specific IgE antibodies present in the serum, the Nextlab™ environmental test can help to identify environmental allergens for both allergen avoidance purposes and to select for inclusion in allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT).
Serological testing enables you to provide additional management and therapeutic options (such as ASIT) for allergy cases. Only by identifying relevant allergens are you able to offer all long-term solutions as part of an effective management programme for this life-long condition.
The Nextlab™ Environmental test contains allergens from the following groups:
By measuring allergen specific IgE antibodies present in the serum, this equine-specific test can help to identify insect allergens to enable both management changes to take place, and for inclusion in allergen specific immunotherapy (ASIT).
The Nextlab™ Insect test contains the following allergens:
The only way to diagnose a food allergy is by conducting a diet trial. Using the Nextlab™ food test can help identify which foods are the most appropriate to use for the diet trial.
The Nextlab™ food test measures allergen-specific IgG and IgE antibodies against food allergens, and is designed to assist in the selection of foods that are suitable for an elimination diet trial. The results of the test are printed in a clear visual format to help with owner understanding and engagement; in turn, helping to promote stricter compliance.
The Nextlab™ food test contains allergens from the following groups:
Additional resources to support you and your clients when conducting a diet trial can be found in the ‘Resources’ section of the Practice Portal.
Nextlab Environmental & Insect
This test includes the equine environmental panel and insect panel.
By measuring allergen-specific IgE antibodies present in the serum, the Nextlab™ environmental test can help to identify environmental allergens for both allergen avoidance purposes and to select for inclusion in allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT).

Nextlab Screens
Screens are available for both food and environmental panels, and offer a positive or negative result only. Screens can be expanded on request.
Nextlab™ screens provide a cost-effective solution if you suspect allergic disease. Using the same ELISA based technology as our other allergy tests, the results will show you either a single positive or a negative result to each mixed allergen panel. You can then investigate further if desired, by expanding any positive allergen panel to gain individual allergen results.
This allergy screening provides an economic method for allergen investigation identification and, following expansion of any panels with positive results, is an excellent precursor to allergen-specific immunotherapy and targeted allergen avoidance.
